Screen Testing

Screen testing for Drugs is conducted using Urine screen devices. Alcohol screening conducted on a standards approved Breath Alcohol Tester. Urine testing is conducted using verified screening devices which comply with Standard AS/NZS 4308:2008. On the indication of the possible presence of a drug (not-negative or non-negative) the sample can be sent to an IANZ accredited laboratory, such as Canterbury Health Laboratories, for confirmation testing. Donors have the right to request testing of the referee specimen and a medical review of laboratory results.

We are located in New Plymouth but travel outside of Taranaki regularly to preform testing.

Your Company’s Legal Responsibility

Employers have a responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to take reasonably practicable steps to make the workplace safe for employees and people in and around the workplace. An employee impaired by alcohol or drugs is a hazard.

Our Staff

All our staff are qualified Collectors with NZQA 25511 and 25458 and operate in compliance with the New Zealand and Australian Urine Workplace Drug Testing Standard AS/NZS 4308:2008.

Drug and Alcohol Policies

We are able to assist companies to prepare and implement a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Policy. Employment Agreements and Policies are checked by our specialist law firm.  Training and education is recommended as part of this process together with annual policy reviews.

Urine Screening Devices

Onsite Screen testing of staff is a cost effective and instant method of testing.
Sure Step cups are used for general screening.  SureStep are verified to Standard AS/NZS 4308:2008.  The cups have six panels for screening the common drugs of abuse.  The cups have six integrity and adulteration tests such as temperature, pH, bleach, nitrites, specific gravity and creatinine. Synthetic cannabinoids (not Pot etc) are screen tested for using OneStep devices which test for 9 common compounds.  

Types of Drugs Tested

The classes of drugs usually tested for in a standard workplace test are Amphetamines, Methamphetamine, Cannabis, Cocaine, Opiates and Benzodiazepines.  Other types of drugs can be tested for such as synthetic cannabis.

Canterbury Health Laboratories can screen for other classes of Drugs on request.

Drug Testing Programs

Being pro-active is the key to reducing the incidence of drug and alcohol abuse in the workplace.  Once a Drug and Alcohol Policy is in place, we recommend implementing a Drug Testing Program.  This can be tailored to the company’s financial restraints and needs.  The program may include Pre-employment, Post Incident, Random and Reasonable Cause Testing. Rehabilitation is often used to assist valued employees break drug and alcohol addictions.
